Consulate-General of the People's Republic of China in Brisbane held the 2024 "Embracing Chinese New Year" Reception

    On 1 February 2024, the Consulate-General of the People's Republic of China held the 2024 "Embracing Chinese New Year" Reception at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Center. Consul-General Dr Ruan Zongze, Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM, Governor of Queensland, Hon Cameron Dick, Deputy Premier, Treasurer and Minister for Trade and Investment of Queensland, Ms Angela Owen, Brisbane City Councillor for Calamvale Ward and Representative of the Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner, Mr Michael Ma, President of Queensland Chinese United Council attended and delivered speeches. Nearly 500 representatives from all walks of life in Queensland attended. The atmosphere of the event was warm and friendly.

    Dr Ruan Zongze extended New Year's greetings to everyone in his speech, introducing the spirit of the Central Foreign Affairs Work Conferenceof China and the achievements of China's economic development. He emphasized the so-called election in China's Taiwan region cannot change the basic pattern and the development of cross-Strait relations. Dr Ruan looked forward to the prospects of China-Australia relationship and practical cooperation between China and Queensland, and said that the Chinese Consulate-General will continue to actively support China-Queenslandcooperation and personnel exchanges, and enhance the friendship between the people of China and Australia.

    The attending guests expressed their gratitude to theoverseas Chinese for their contributions to the local economy and cultural development, and looked forward to more fruitful cooperation between Queensland and China in 2024.

    The Award Ceremony for the 2023 "When Koala Meets Panda Short Video Contest",which was hosted by the Consulate-General and co-organized by People's Daily Online, was also held at the reception.
