On August 12th, Consul-General Dr RUAN Zongze paid a courtesy call to the Speaker of Legislative Assembly of Queensland Hon. Curtis Pitt.

Dr Ruan said, in the half century of China-Australia diplomatic relations, despite ups and downs, both countries stick to mutual-respect and mutual-benefit as the defining features of bilateral relations on the whole, and deliver real benefits to both peoples. Queensland have made significant achievements in promoting multiculturalism which coincides with “seeking harmony in diversity” in Chinese culture. I wish to work with Mr Speaker to enhance China-Queensland exchanges and further the in-depth development of friendship. Dr Ruan also introduced the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, economic development and achievements of poverty alleviation, briefed on China’s measures to coordinate epidemic control efforts and socio-economic development and the results achieved.

Mr Speaker said, China’s economic development has brought many new opportunities for the world. Strong economic and trade links between Australia and China have made significant contributions to the economic prosperity of both countries. I’m impressed by my visit to China and look forward to more cooperation and exchanges with China, so as to increase mutual understanding and enhance friendship.

Mr George Hasanakos, executive officer of Office of the Speaker, was also at the meeting.
