Competition Overview

The 2023 "When Koala Meets Panda" China-Australia Friendship Short-Video Contest, hosted by the Chinese Consulate-General in Brisbane and organized by People's Daily Online Australia, has successfully held six editions. The event aims to showcase authentic stories of mutual understanding between the people of China and Australia from the perspective of young individuals through social media platforms, thereby enhancing communication and friendship between the two countries. Since its first edition in 2017, the short video contest has collected over 600 original videos, accumulated more than 5 million views, and achieved a total playback volume exceeding 100 million.

Competition Theme

The theme of this competition is "Reunion", symbolizing the opening of entry restrictions between China and Australia. It portrays the anticipation of Australian friends traveling to China and the desire of young Chinese individuals to study in Australia. Furthermore, it represents the long-awaited exchanges in terms of economy, culture, and friendship between the two countries.

Eligibility

The competition welcomes enthusiastic submissions from young individuals of both China and Australia interested in this theme. The event aspires to evoke the power of friendship among people of both countries, especially the youth, thereby promoting mutual understanding between China and Australia. Simultaneously, the activity encourages Chinese expatriates, overseas Chinese, and Chinese students in Australia to discover the beauty of Australia, actively integrate into the local culture, and become ambassadors of friendship.

How to Register

Participants are invited to create short videos that encapsulate the theme of "reunion", with durations spanning between 10 seconds and 3 minutes. These videos can be shared through diverse social media platforms before the November 30 deadline.

Method 1: Choose any of the following social media platforms to publish your video. Include the hashtag #Koalameetspanda and tag the official account: @whenkoalameetspanda (Facebook/TikTok/Xiaohongshu) @koalameetspandacontest (Instagram) @koalameetspanda (X)

Method 2: Send your video to the email address australia@people.cn, and provide your registration information (name, contact details, video title, and video description).

Prizes

A panel of professional judges will select the most outstanding works from the four individual awards categories, and each winning entry will receive a prize of AUD 1000. Additionally, based on readership from Chinese social media platforms, the contest will also award a "Most Popular in China Award" to a participant. The recipient of this award will receive a certificate of recognition and a one-week trip to China.
